Parents ask Goa- CM to help in class XII exam issue

Posted: 14 Nov 2010 07:25 PM PST

A group of parents met chief minister Digamber Kamat last week and asked him to order the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education to conduct class XII board exams earlier in the academic year. This request was made so that Goan students get ample time to prepare for national competitive examinations such as the entrance test for the Indian Institutes of Technology.

Parents told Kamat that their representations in the matter to the Goa Board have yeilded no response or results. The chief minister was told that Goa Board is one of the bodies in the country that conducts the standard XII public examinations very late in the academic year and Goan students get the least time to prepare for national examinations.

Parents said that this was one of the major reasons why only few Goa students qualified in the national competitive exams. They said that besides doing well in the board exams, they also want students to perform well in IIT JEE, AIEE, BITSAT and other such national examinations.

“With this in view, it is a must that students get at least one month to prepare for these examinations after the standard XII exam. The Goa Board should ensure that the time table is made in such a way as to allow students sufficient time to do well in the Goa board and the national competitive exams,” one parent told Kamat.

Kamat assured the parents that he would write to the Goa Board in this regard so that Goan students are able to shine in national competitive tests as well.

“Normally, standard XI exams are conducted before the standard XII exams. It is easily possible to conduct standard XII exams first and then the standard XI exams so that standard XII students get the desired time period to prepare for nationally competitive exams,” another parent said.
