Centre looking at partial toll waiver, says Kamat

Posted: 13 Nov 2010 06:12 PM PST

While the land acquisition officer for NH4A in Goa will start displaying the new alignment plans to the public from Monday, Goa’s request for extending the waiver for toll from 20 km radius to 40 km radius is being looked into by the central government, chief minister Digambar Kamat told TOI on Saturday.

Kamat who returned from Delhi after meeting the NHAI chairman, said the NHAI chairman met him in Delhi to discuss the new alignment plans which were finalized after a joint survey in Goa by the NHAI and the state PWD.

The joint survey report for NH4A clearly shows what are the demolitions for 35 km width, the number of demolitions for 45 km width of road and all other details, Kamat said.

“We had given our suggestions where to restrict the road width to 35 metres, where to go for road diversions and so on. We have submitted this to the NHAI and they have agreed to most of our demands,” Kamat said. When asked how many structures would be demolised in the new plans, Kamat said he could not tell the figure off hand but added that in the new plans “everything is clear now. There is no ambiguity.

The land acquisition officer should start displaying the plans to whoever wants to see them from Monday,” Kamat said.

When asked about the toll to be levied on the people, Kamat said NHAI has shown him a clause where “local residents are charged at the rate of Rs 150 per month at one toll point.” He also said that his government has requested NHAI to extend the waiver of toll payment for the residents of 20 km radius to 40 km radius. Kamat said this would reduce the apprehensions about toll greatly but the decision has to be taken by the central government

Nitin Gadkari behind Sudarshan’s Statement:Goa MP

Posted: 13 Nov 2010 09:36 AM PST

Mr Shantaram Naik M.P. and Secretary All India Congress Committee addressing the congresspersons in Panaji, Goa  after an effigy of  Shri K Sudarshan Ex-Chief of RSS was burnt by him  lighting a candle,  said that   the nexus between the charges made by Congress against BJP President Shri Nitin Gadkari's benami ownership  of  a flat in Adarsh Society in Mumbai and Sudarshan's most vulgar statement,  against Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi, needs to be probed.

Congresspersons led by Goa PCC President gathered in front of Congress Office in Panaji and,  after addressing the gathering there,  Mr Naik lit the effigy followed by other congress leaders and workers.

Mr Naik said that  it is well known that Shri Gadkari is the RSS nominee in BJP or rather he is on deputation from RSS to BJP and, in these circumstances, Sudarshan has come to the aid of tainted Gadkari, and possibly, at the instance of Gadkari, Mr Naik said..

Mr Naik said that Mr Sudarshan's statement in the background of RSS leaders being named in Ajmer bomb blast case also  needs to be inquired into.

Mr Naik said that Mr Gadkari himself has recently started using harsh language against Congress President, and therefore, it is possible that he has engaged the services of K Sudarshan for using more harsher language which he himself cannot do as President of BJP.

Instead of merely contending themselves that they do not agree with the statement,   how is that RSS, which claims to be the most disciplinary outfit in India,  has not taken disciplinary action against its former Chief, Mr Naik questioned.

Goa PCC President Shri Subhash Shirodker said that what Shri Sudarshan said is a product of RSS thinking and the same needs to be strongly condemned.  Right thinking people of this country will never tolerate this type of low level political stunts, he said.

Shri Altinho Gomes, Goa PCC Secretary said that one does not understand as to from which cultural fabric Shri Sudarshan belongs.

President of Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Mrs. Monica Dias said that as a Indian woman she feels that entire country must condemn what Shri Sudarshan said about Congress President.

Vice President of Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Shri Dilip Dhargal said Mr Sudarshan does not appear to acquainted with Indian culture.

Goa film festival to have e-ticketing for delegates

Posted: 13 Nov 2010 08:38 AM PST

More than 7,000 delegates who have registered for the 41st International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa can now avail of e-ticketing facilities at the Nov 22-Dec 2 event, organisers said Thursday.

State Information Secretary Narendra Kumar said this was the first time in the world that tickets at a film festival could be booked using an e-ticketing mechanism.

‘This e-ticketing software will not only eliminate queues, but help delegates book tickets for their film screenings at the touch of a button from the comforts of their home. Nowhere in the world do film festivals have such e-ticketing facilities,’ Kumar said.

Manoj Srivastava, CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) which is the local host agency for the IFFI, said that the e-ticketing mode included a lot of security features.

‘Bar coding of the tickets synced with the delegate’s identity card will ensure that tickets will be carried by the person they are issued to. Any person who books tickets and does not attend three shows in a row will be barred from booking any more tickets for two days,’ Srivastava said.

The official also said that the software would help in collating data, like for example which movie was the most popular with delegates.

‘We will have record about which movie was attended the most by delegates and other such information on the basis of this new software,’ Srivastava said.

The e-ticketing software has been developed with the help of the Goa unit of the National Informatics centre.

‘Delegates can also use e-kiosk at the IFFI venue where e-tickets can be printed on the spot,’ he said.
