| Goa constable wanted for drug-mafia link surrenders Today. Posted: 14 May 2010 08:10 AM PDT A Goa Police constable, who was evading arrest for over two months in a police-drug peddler nexus case, in which six of his colleagues and seniors are behind bars, surrendered before a local court Friday. Sanjay Parab surrendered to the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Court at Mapusa, about 10 km from Panaji, Deputy Superintendent of Police or DSP (Crime Branch) Chandrakant Salgaonkar said. The 30-year-old will be arrested once he is handed over to Crime Branch by the court, the DSP said. Parab was amongst seven policemen booked by Crime Branch for alleged links with Israeli drug peddlers Yaniv Benaim alias Atala and David Driham alias Dudu. Crime Branch has arrested six of them - Inspector Ashish Shirodkar, Sub-Inspector Punaji Gawas, a head constable and three constables. Parab was on the run since the first week of March when a case was filed against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and NDPS Act. Crime Branch issued a lookout notice against Parab when he failed to respond to its summons. Police were expecting Parab to surrender Thursday after his lawyer withdrew an anticipatory bail petition filed in the Goa Bench of Bombay High Court, claiming his client will surrender to the investigating agencies. The nexus was exposed after Atala confessed on video tape about his links with the Police. Courtesy: HT |
| Kareena on Golman & Diamands in goa Posted: 14 May 2010 06:13 AM PDT I've moved bag and baggage to Goa!” claimed Kareena Kapoor in a recent interview. The clearly excited and relaxed actress was also endorsing a diamond brand while she was taking a break from shooting for Golmaal-3. Talking about men, the actress said, “All men know how to woo their women. And one way is to buy them diamonds!” And when she was questioned as to whether beau Saif Ali Khan had bought her any diamonds, she quickly exclaimed, “Of course! But a woman is never satisfied with one diamond…there has to be a number of it!”
Talking about her character in Golmaal-3, she confirmed that this time round she will not be playing a television serial watching wife. “I'm playing one of the heroes this time. She's more like a tom-boy. But she's still feminine because she is the only girl in the film!” She also spoke about Agent Vinod, her upcoming film with Saif Ali Khan. “What will work for Agent Vinod is the director Shriram Raghavan. His films are slightly edgy.” But her most controversial comment came when she spoke about her recent set of dud films. “Actors don't fail the script; the script fails them. The director is the captain of the ship. The actor just listens to whatever the director says or does.” Courtesy:Bollyspice |
| SIT to probe desecration of religious places in Goa Posted: 13 May 2010 09:25 AM PDT Police on Thursday said the SIT, currently assisting the Margao blasts probe, will now investigate the incidence of desecration at religious places in the coastal state. “Since Margao blast case investigation has reached its fag end and the chargesheet is to be filed on May 17, SIT officers will now work on the idol desecration cases in temples and churches,” a senior Crime branch official told PTI today. Goa, with almost 30 per cent Catholic population, had witnessed several incidents of Church desecration in recent past. These incidents were besides idol desecrations in temples witnessed during last three years. State Chief Minister Digamber Kamat had assured to look into these cases when a Guardian Angel Church at Curchorem town was desecrated by vandals last week. Curchorem police said miscreants had vandalized statues of St Benedict and Our Lady of Lourdes erected outside the Church. These statues were specially brought from Portugal and placed here almost 50 years ago by the parishioners. In the same premises, statues of Christ the King and Fr Agnelo were also damaged. This was second Church to be targeted within a month. The vandals, earlier, had desecrated a Church at Chandor, a remote village in south district. Crime branch’s SIT will be now asked to crack these instances of idol desecration which may flare communal tension in the state. Interestingly, SIT was formed almost one and half year ago when temple desecration had become order of the day in the state. But the team could not make much headway as it was marred with frequent transfers of the officers. Crime branch officer said a few officers attached to SIT were transferred. “Whoever is left in the team will begin the probe. If needed, more officers can join them later,” he added. Courtesy:TOI |
