Goa government is very strong:CM

Posted: 06 Apr 2010 07:30 AM PDT

Finally breaking his month old silence, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Saturday gave a blow to the dissident group saying he doesn’t think that there is any G-7 group exist in the ruling coalition.
“I don’t know the demands of this so called G-7, CM said and further added that his government is very strong.

Seven non -congress ministers and MLAs were in jubilant mood till Monday evening. But things started changing after CM gave intimation of cabinet meeting at 5 pm to all ministers. At that time G 7 group was camping in Mumbai to meet central leader of NCP Praful Patel.

Leader of G 7 Jose Philip Dsouza was consistently telling media that they would not be able to attend cabinet meeting. But at night Patel refused to meet this group saying that as soon as UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi arrives in Delhi, he will hold talks with central congress leaders.

Sources say by this time G-7 got an unconfirmed message from their informers that CM is planning to recommend dissolution of assembly. Incidentally CM had appointment with governor at around 11 am on Tuesday.

It is learnt that NCP minister Jose Philip Dsouza and MLA Nilkant Halarnakar were of the opinion that they must stop any move to recommend dissolution of House. Following this G-7 rushed to Goa by early morning flight at around 6.30 am.

As per schedule CM held meeting of cabinet. Four ministers from G-7 group attended the cabinet meeting. Cabinet finalised sport policy of Goa and meeting ended in 15 minutes. There is no question of dissolution, said CM while talking to Digital Goa after the cabinet meeting.

Meanwhile, CM held press briefing in the evening. My government is very strong. I am not aware of any demands of so called G-7 group except the demand of apology from Minister Churchill Alemao, CM said.

There is no proposal of cabinet reshuffle. The NCP ministers must have put their various demands before their high command. My (congress party`s) high command is in touch with NCP`s high command. Let them decide. I will not act till I get instruction from my high command, CM clarified.

On the other hand G-7 remained silent today. We will have to wait because our demands are before our central leaders. We are waiting for their reply, Minister Jose Philip said.

Bipasha: Why blame Goa alone?

Bipasha Basu feels bad elements exist everywhere and wants to raise awareness about the security of women in Goa through her next, Dum Maro Dum

Bipasha Basu has been shooting in Goa for Rohan Sippy drug-busting thriller Dum Maro Dum. In the film, she plays a bohemian character called Zoyee, a free-spirited Goan girl who gets involved with the drug racket in Goa.

The actress says it was her distress for the crime rate against female tourists that prompted her to take up this role,”I’m really concerned about what’s happening in Goa. When I took up this role I saw it as a vehicle to create a certain awareness about the reality of the crime rate on the beaches of Goa.”

It’s so easy!
Bipasha is concerned about the way Goa is being represented to the world. “It’s so easy to let an underbelly thrive in Goa. Everyone here can do what he or she like. Goa’s image has suffered a beating. And female tourists are the main victims. Female travelers coming to Goa are world gypsies. In Goa, they end up trusting the wrong people. We must protect them. I wish Goa wouldn’t be saddled with a negative image. Bad elements exist everywhere.”

She hopes to create awareness about the safety and security issues of women in Goa through her character.
Goan ’sunshine’

Bipasha admits that her role has elements of Zeenat Aman in Hare Rama Hare Krishna, “Her character does represent the hippy culture, it doesn’t necessarily mean taking drugs and getting zonked out. My character Zoyee represents the bright side of Goa. She’s definitely the sunshine in the film.”

Bips has a new look for the character in Dum Maro Dum. “I’m trying a new look for all my films. For this film, I’ve got a new stylist Shyamlee, from the fashion world. I don’t have to be me in my films. However, at the end of the day, I have only one face. I can’t go beyond my physicality. I’d love to play something like Charlize Theron in Monster. Such a beautiful actress… so grossly disfigured! It was quite a shock.”

Latest political development in Goa

Posted: 05 Apr 2010 09:53 AM PDT

The continuous infighting between congress and G-7 has virtually brought the administration in Goa to the stand still.

Goa is experiencing political uncertainty for almost a month now. Ministers are busy shuttling between Goa Delhi and Mumbai either to save their positions in the cabinet or to settle scores with each other.

Except Power Minister Alex Sequeira and Panchayat Minister Babu Azgaonkar no minister is visiting his chamber in secretariat at Porvorim. Group of five ministers are camping in either Delhi or Mumbai for last 25 days. Group was in Goa last month only to attend the budget session.

Various directors and MDs of government departments and corporations are frustrated as the files are pending for days together. Though chief minister is clearing files which are coming to him, it appears that he is also on his toes.

People have also stoped visiting secretariat at Porvorim or ministers official residences at Altinho, as they often find ministers absent.

Last week leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar had also warned government saying he will ask Governor to dissolve assembly as the infighting in ruling combination has led to the collapse of administration.

Meanwhile, CM has called cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Agenda of the meeting says that the cabinet is going to discuss the sports policy.
